Event Summary / 活动概况

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

So five investment eyes must be spectacular in an age of China-US tensions.

I am pleased to assemble a unique panel of five speakers to discuss investing in an age of:

  1. superpower rivalries and China’s rise
  2. zero/negative interest rates, record low bonds
  3. record debt and leverage by governments, corporations and individuals
  4. stock buy-backs with cheap money to boost the price (not necessarily value?) of listed stocks
  5. energy, water and food supply/price dislocations
  6. diminished trust in institutions and in the veracity of data
  7. tech driven disruption
  8. demographic impacts
  9. the rise of alternative investments
  10. the closing productivity gap between the developed and developing world, as 6.9 billion people (Africa, India, China, Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe, South America) want to consume more of the world’s resources currently controlled by 0.7 billion in the developed world
  11. paradoxically the widening gap within the developed world between rich and poor, left-wing and right-wing, and standards of governance, integrity and civility

Speakers are Mohamed Hage, Danny Bhandari, Benjamin Chong, Lincoln Smith, and myself.

  1. Mohamed is the head of research at CPG Advisory – an independent asset consultant with $10 billion under advice from institutional and wholesale investors
  2. Danny is the founder of A3D Capital, and is a co-founder of Tibra Capital, a derivatives trading and market-making firm.  He is in the AFR Young Rich List (2017 -$40m)
  3. Benjamin is the co-founder Right Click Capital, a VC fund with a focus on tech investments
  4. David Chin is the Managing Director of BasisPoint, and a ‘China Futurist’ eying opportunities and risks in the China-Australia corridor
  5. Lincoln Smith is a Partner at Albourne Partners, one of the world’s largest investment consultants with US$500 billion invested via their clients into alternative assets
